Support Strong Rx Drug Safety Legislation
The Food and Drug
Administration’s (FDA’s) system for regulating prescription drugs is broken.
Consumers need to be protected from dangerous and deadly prescription drugs such
as Vioxx and Avandia. A recent study indicated that Avandia raises the risk of
heart attacks by 30%.
Ask your lawmakers to
support strong drug safety legislation.

Dear Representative:
Please support H.R.1561, the Enhancing Drug Safety and Innovation Act of 2007, introduced by Reps. Henry Waxman and Edward Markey. The House must take action to refocus the FDA on its original mission of ensuring that Americans receive safe medicines.
H.R. 1561 permits drug industry user fees to be used for drug safety. As much as 90 percent of the FDA’s drug evaluation budget is currently spent on expediting the approval of new drugs. This is a short-sighted and dangerous policy.
H.R. 1561 also requires the FDA to publicly post the results of most clinical trials so doctors and patients can fully weigh the risks and benefits of various medications. Drug companies have been reluctant to post the results of clinical trials that show their drugs in an unflattering light.
Sincerely,
