Letter	Dear Legislator, Health care costs are rising at twice the rate of inflation and health insurance is getting far too expensive. It's not surprising that the number of uninsured is at an all-time high. I urge you to support legislation listed below that would lower health care costs. SB1488 by Senator Dean and HB1435 by Representative Zapata would require that prices for 150 of the most common hospital procedures be made available on a state run website. This would lower prices by creating competition and make it more difficult for hospitals to overcharge the uninsured and underinsured. SB2790 by Senator Deutch and HB299 by Representative Waldman would raise Florida's tobacco tax by one dollar. A wide body of research indicates that raising the tobacco tax would reduce the smoking rate which would save Florida more than $20 billion a year in smoking-related health costs. SB1998 by Senator Ring and HB637 by Representative Grimsley would create a loan program to foster the development of a secure statewide electronic medical records system that would improve health care quality and efficiency, reduce medical errors and constrain administrative and other health care costs.
